New Movies Weekend of March 26th

It’s been a week of shake-ups in the movie release calendar, as Disney shifted they MCU back by a few months, including putting Black Widow (and non-MCU Cruella) to a joint theatrical-streaming model, and the hotly anticipated Chris Rock/Samuel L. Jackson entry into the Saw franchise, Spiral, got bumped up a week to 14 May. But as we head into the traditional Spring blockbuster season, and as HBOMax preps the first major tentpole to hit since Tenet quitely bowed last summer mid pandemic, we’ve got a few movies dropping this week worth checking out, both in theatres and on streaming.

Nobody

Theatres
Directed by Ilya Naishuller, written by Derek Kolstad, starring Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, RZA, Aleksei Serebryakov, and Christopher Lloyd. Is this little more than a John Wick knock off produced by one of the John Wick creators? Yes. Does it look wild as hell with a great cast and Bob Odenkirk just owning it every step of the way? Also yes, I can’t wait to see this, and I’m definitely heading to theatres for it.

Bad Trip

Netflix
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, written by Sakurai, Dan Curry, Eric André, starring André, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish and Michaela Conlin. This sort of deranged, surreal hidden cam narrative comedy feels like a thing only Eric André could and would do, and definitely feels influenced by Tom Green, Johnny Knoxville and Sacha Baron Cohen.

A Week Away

Netflix
Directed by Roman White, written by Kali Bailey & Alan Powell, starring Bailee Madison, David Koechner, Sherri Shepherd, Kevin Quinn

Violation

Shudder
Written & directed by Madeleine Sims-Fewer & Dusty Mancinelli, starring Madeleine Sims-Fewer, Anna Maguire, Jesse LaVercombe, Obi Abili, Jasmin Geljo and Cynthia Ashperger.
